Tree Pose or Vrkshasana (Sanskrit), is a balancing posture in Yoga.
It requires standing on one leg, placing the sole of the opposite foot to the inner thigh of the supporting leg, bringing the palms to prayer position in front of the heart, then sweeping the arms overhead, as if the arms were tree limbs.
This artist's rendition of "Tree Pose" has the arms extending into tree branches and the bough of the tree. On the figures' bent leg are the Sanskrit letters spelling "Vrkshasana".The symbology and imagery of the tree, as analogous to life, is profound. We think of our roots growing deep into the earth to keep us grounded and stable. The strength in the core of our bodies keeps us straight and strong to weather whatever the winds may blow our way.
